Families and children from group homes, treatment centers, and shelters participated in the SEWcial (sew and social) Free Arts Day at the Desert Botanical Garden on January 14th. At this event, participants created art projects using textile and fiber arts.
Free Arts volunteers were joined by volunteers from Desert Schools Federal Credit Union and the Desert Botanical Garden. They made this event memorable by creating a safe space and engaging universal participation. Throughout the day, children learned skills like artistic sewing, how to play steel drums, and were also encouraged to work together to complete their pieces of art. All attendees also collaborated on the community project, ReThanks led by Ann Morton. The flowers for this project were made from recyclable trash and will be displayed at the Arizona Science Center.
