An Evening of Inspiration and Celebration
Phyllis Lane, a Phoenix area photographer and artist, announces the release of her inspirational documentary film, "Unleashing Creativity: the power of being creative,” which premiered in the downtown Chandler at Inspirador (www.inspirador.com) on the evening of June 5, 2009.
Lane recently traveled the country and interviewed artists, writers, musicians (including Carlos Santana), athletes (including Steve Nash of the NBA), children, dancers, neuroscientists (including Dr. Joe Dispenza from the documentary "What the Bleep do We Know"), photographers (including Steve McCurry from National Geographic), filmmakers, and other creatives who each offer a unique perspective on creativity,"Everyone is an artist,” Lane says, and her intention in making the film is to show why creativity is important, and how lives can be transformed through the power of being creative. One creative idea can inspire and change many lives.
NBA star Steve Nash helped with the project, along with his wife, Alejandra, who co-directed the film. Nash paints for the first time in his life on camera while being guided in "point zero" painting--a method in which one does not plan the painting but lets the brush go where it wants to go on the canvas, allowing the painter to move into the present moment.
The inspirational night of the screening will included a live performance from Portland's jazz great Darrell Grant, a poetry reading by renowned poet Jimmy Santiago Baca, Lane's unique artwork, organic food from Whole Foods, and a wine tasting from the exclusive Napa Valley vineyard Hundred Acre Winery. Items were also on sale at the event, along with CD's from Darrell Grant, and books by poet Jimmy Santiago Baca. A silent auction of signed Fender guitars by Carlos Santana rounded out the evening. The event raised over $5,000 for Free Arts of Arizona.
"I loved the event and had a great experience. All of the guest speakers were so interesting - and you were so nice and made me feel welcome. After hearing so much about you, it was nice to finally have an opportunity to meet you and talk to you.
One of the highlights of the day for me was watching the video on creativity. My daughter is an artist/poet/dancer and is so talented. The video opened up this new window into her world and helped me understand who she is as an artist. I gave her the website for Free Arts and she signed up to be a volunteer."
Thank you again for everything.
